Our Founder Martin Powell and his story of Myconutri

MycoNutri grew out of my patients’ need for a range of supplements that would deliver the full health benefits of mushrooms at an affordable price.

I was introduced to the healing potential of mushrooms while studying Chinese medicine in Taipei in the early 1990’s during which time I also worked for a company supplying cancer patients with mushroom supplements. Unfortunately they were sold at prices that were out of reach for many and so when I returned to the UK I started working with the mycelial biomass products from the USA that were available at that time.

Later I started getting asked to teach other practitioners about mushrooms and this led me to write Medicinal Mushrooms – A Clinical Guide to answer the questions I as a practitioner had about mushrooms and their clinical application: which mushroom, what form and how much?

As a result of the research involved in writing the book it became clear to me that the mushroom supplements I was then using, derived as they were from myceliated brown rice with a relatively short grow cycle, had low levels of the key active compounds and bore little relation to the evidence base justifying their use.

With no other options available I realised that in order to give my patients the best chance of success I would have to produce my own range of mushroom supplements based on the latest research and clinical experience and so in 2008 MycoNutri was born!
